How Does DNA Paternity Testing Work?

Simply put, DNA is a comparison between the child's and parents' genetic makeup. Everyone has a genetic code that was transmitted through the heredity chain to give them their own identity. When half of the child's DNA is determined to match the mother and half matches the father, then paternity is established. If, for example, the father's DNA does not match the child's it is determined a "mismatch" and the alleged father is excluded. It is important to note that 30% of all paternity tests reveal exclusions.

How The Collection Of The Sample Is Done

A very easy 30-second swab of the mouth is all it takes. The procedure can be done in our office or in your home for your convenience. Samples are taken from the mother, the father and the child and secured. The samples are then sent to the world renowned laboratories of Genetic Technologies, Inc. located in St. Louis, MO for testing. It takes about a week to receive the results.
